Thermoplastic paint, commonly referred to as thermoplastic road marking paint, is a type of road marking material widely used for creating durable and highly visible markings on roads, highways, and parking lots. It is applied in a molten state and forms a hard, durable coating once cooled. This paint is known for its long-lasting performance and resistance to wear.

Composition:

  1. Binder Resins:
    • Made from thermoplastic materials such as hydrocarbon or alkyd resins.
    • Provides adhesion and flexibility.
  2. Pigments:
    • Responsible for color, with white (titanium dioxide) and yellow (lead chromate or organic pigments) being common.
  3. Fillers:
    • Calcium carbonate or other materials increase volume and reduce cost.
  4. Glass Beads:
    • Added for retroreflectivity, enhancing night-time visibility.
  5. Additives:
    • Include stabilizers, plasticizers, and anti-settling agents for improved application and performance.
